LOS ANGELES - as a kid in the 1960s, reality TV king Mark Burnett has been excited by the miracle of special effects of a Red Sea separated in "the ten commandments."
"How cool was that?", said the producer of "survivor" and "the apprentice," who watched film of Cecil b. DeMille 1956 when it was broadcast on television.
Now it is the turn of Burnett to delight an audience of the small screen with stories of epic entries: him and his wife, actress Roma Downey, produce the 10-part docu-fiction "The Bible" for the history string.
It is set to air in 2013, History channel President Nancy Dubuc said Tuesday.
The series will combine live action with computer-generated images to tell stories of Noah and the Ark of the exodus to the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus. Shooting is planned for the Middle East and elsewhere.
Burnett said he and Downey (who plays in a different look at the faith, the fantasy series "touched by an Angel") worked on the project for two years. Both grew up with the Scriptures, he in England and it Ireland North, but are not on a mission, Burnett said.
"People apply personal meanings to the Bible." "Our job is to tell the story of an emotionally connected manner", he said, adding that a large part of the great literature and its characters are rooted in the book.
Chain cable, that projects focused on religious, since he made his debut, was seeking a worthy of the series of 12 hours tracking "America: The Story of Us", said Dubuc.
For a new generation, "The Bible" provides a way to visit the work "in a manner entertaining and Visual" which can encourage viewers to ask more information, said.
The project also has global appeal, the value to the history and his country of 150 scope, Dubuc said.
"The Bible" is among the largest ventures of the chain, she said, refusing to detail of the budget.
History, which had established a partnership with Burnett on "Expedition Africa", was a series of interviews with him on his desire to explore the Bible and its approach, said Dubuc.
It became clear that "his vision was to make the Bible much the way we did 'The story of us'," she said.
There is no conflict between the new series and the mark of the chain, the Directorate said.
"Regardless of your beliefs - and we're not drawing on the feelings about the importance of faith - is book studied in the greater part of all time," said."".
"The Bible" is using the new Version of International, translation preferred by the Evangelical Christian leaders and the new Version, said Dubuc. A Committee of theologians and researchers is assembled to consult on the series.
Burnett called a lesson in humility to depict the entries on screen and rewarding "breathe gentle Visual life in amazing stories to a global audience."
The mini-series offer rare depth and the possibility to create a "legacy" project, said Burnett, 50, whose credits include also the new singing competition "the voice" and the upcoming Emmy Awards ceremony.
"I could be 80 or 90 and it could still be on television," he said "The Bible".
Earlier this year, history stumbled with another major project, the mini-series controversial multi-millionaire "the kennedys." The chain decided of does not air, saying: he had found the "dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the history of the brand." The miniseries was released in April on ReelzChannel.
The story is owned by A & E television networks, which itself is jointly owned by NBC Universal, the Walt Disney Co. and the Hearst Corp..
