He has worked with what he would work with ice cream comics?
A decade after Joe Field given permanent people online for free scoops of ice cream, efforts to attract readers new and obsolete by offering free comic strips are become an annual event adopted by publishers and comic retailers seeking new customers.
Field, which has Comics of colours Flying in Concord, California, said that the idea of the event, now in its 10th year, was inspired by an ice cream shop.
"I noticed a long line of people outside of my store." The line was Baskin-Robbins "Free night of Scoop" - and I said to myself, ' Comics are colder than ice cream! We should be able to do something bigger and more than the free night of Scoop. ""
He wrote on the idea of a magazine in the industry and it took off from there.
"The first free day of Comic Book featured just four publishers.". This year, three dozen publishers participate, "he said, including for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Archie, Zenescope Entertainment, Image, Dark Horse and SDI."
Geoff Johns, Creative Director of DC, called the event a way to celebrate "" born a medium and educate and misleading this passion to others. ""
Some 2.7 million copies of free comics are to be delivered across the country and in 40 other countries Saturday.
Denmark, Morten Soendergaard prepares for his third time hosting the event at the comedy store Fantask in Copenhagen.
"It is well known among fans here but perhaps not among a wider public," he said. Soendergaard, said that shop ordered reprints of classic comics, including Marvel, which is "freely distributed on the basis of first come, first served."
In Germany, nine stores are participating in the event, including Grober Unfug in Berlin. A store vendor, Christoph Wienke said that they received two boxes of free comics, or about 40 titles, including editions of "Pep Comics featuring Betty & Veronica from Archie,"DC "Green lantern" and 'The put-Adventures of Adam West of the Bluewater Productions' ".""," a rollicking story on the TV star who inadvertently becomes the man who saves the universe.
Michael "Mac" McEwen is Comics & Collectibles of the Mac owner in Miami and he called Free Comic Book Day "the greatest day of the year" for the stores to reach new fans.
He said that slate summer of films based on the comic isn't bad, either. McEwen has helped to organize a screening of "Thor" Tuesday Preview and distributed flyers of 700 for Free Comic Day projection.
On Saturday, the first 1,000 people to visit his store will receive a comic featuring Thor and Captain America, which also has a film coming out this summer. A new "X - Men" will be out this season and the "Green Lantern."
"With all the films coming out, many of the children is picking up, and then their parents are also involved," he said.
Field publishers have gravitated towards the event number increasing each year, too, said.
"Fortunately, Free Comic Book Day was never a case of breeding cats - there was a strong spirit of cooperation since the beginning,"says."
