Cyndi Lauper sings the Blues to S Jazz Fest

Cyndi Lauper sings the blues? Absolutely.

In fact, this is how the pop icon's career began and she recently said that a return to the sort was inevitable.

"I started in a Janis Joplin cover band and the bad thing was that nobody listened" Lauper stated in an interview with the Associated Press Agency. "To return to a square at the moment in my life is really important for me." Everything is based on the blues and back was a gift. To return to a high tempo section was a gift even better, plu. ?

Lauper fans will get to hear the songs from her latest project, "memphis Blues", and pop classics such as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "True colors" Thursday when it gives a fence, the first show of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festivalwhich runs through Sunday at the fair grounds Race Course.

"I've always wanted play at the festival of jazz," she said. "I am very pleased."

Lauper, 57, said she loves the city of New Orleans and even if she has never played at the festival until it has executed some of the city to other houses of music well known, such as the Tipitina.

"All I know is, is that I like New Orleans," she said. "" "". It is one of the jewel of America's cities and music-wise, it is a place which is revered by many musicians. Just to be able to play at the festival is such a big, big deal. It is something, I always wanted to do. ?

"Memphis Blues", released in June, made its debut in the Blues Billboard Album 1 (hash) and remained there for 14 consecutive weeks. The album has several songs featuring New Orleans Allen Toussaint, the legendary musician, composer and producer.

"When he was doing his album, he contacted me and I was up to my eyebrows in I don't know what and I could not.". If the opportunity to come to the mine, I certainly wanted Allen to be a part of it. I knew that he mixes with the guys in Memphis may really be adding a few spices. And when he began to play "shattered dreams", and to hear it all together. I mean, wow. Everyone fell this downbeat as a dream and became the otherworldly, "Lauper recalled."

The project also includes collaborations with B.B. King, Johnny Lang, Ann Peebles, Tracy Nelson and Charlie Musselwhite, which is scheduled for Thursday in Blues festival as well as with Lauper in his tent.

When she confirmed her appearance Jazz Fest, Lauper immediately thought of bringing all Saints as a special guest too, but "Unfortunately it will play across the city at the same time."

"I had a wonderful experience playing with these guys", says Lauper. "I could actually feel like dirt under my feet when we have"Crossroads"and this is where I sing, where I have worked at this level.".

Lauper said she was born to sing.

"I think that there is a quality wonderful, magical music which has the ability to change the mood and the minds of many," she said.

"The fact that you get a chance to be introduced in the vortex of (music) and thrown large sites and more than itself is a gift." Long ago, I decided that I sing songs types who bring comfort and inspire. I am pleased that I was fairly Têtu stick with that, because it is not all about money or fame. It's the moments that feel fantastic elastic.

"It is that attractive quality that makes you want to continue," she said, "I think that is why Ella Fitzgerald, using a Walker or cane, still went on stage to do what she did." This is why I do what I do. ?
