Composer Oscar dead found rape accused

NEW YORK - Joseph Brooks, the composer Oscar hit "you Light Up My Life" and who was awaiting trial on charges of rape, is found dead in his apartment in New York Sunday killing apparently himselfpolice said.


The body of Brooks, 73, was found in his apartment in Manhattan Upper East Side around 12: 30 by a friend with whom he had planned to lunch, said police.


Brooks had a bag of plastic wrapped around his head. A tank of helium with a hose attachment was also found at the scene and were able to be used in the apparent suicide, police said.


They have said that they found a suicide note but would not discuss its contents. An official autopsy will be conducted on the body.


Brooks was awaiting trial after pleading not guilty in 2009 on charges he raped and at least 11 women victims of sexual violence.

Canon, conspiracy, rapper B.G. accused charges

 A federal grand jury charged Thursday New Orleans rapper B.G. on charges of gun and conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said.

LETTEN, said the 30-years-old rapper, whose real name is Christopher Dorsey, faces two counts of offence of possession of a firearm and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice.


If convicted, Dorsey faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine on charges of gun and up to 20 years of $250,000 and $250,000 fine on the conspiracy charge.


The charges are a 2009 traffic stop in which agents recovered three guns, two were reported stolen. Police said The Times-Picayune that Dorsey was arrested with two others in the vehicle, Demounde Pollard and Jerod Fedison.


According to the indictment, Dorsey conspired with Pollard and Fedison for obstruction of justice by "inducing Demounde Pollard to sign a false affidavit that Dorsey did not three firearms on November 3, 2009.


Pollard and Fedison pleaded guilty in the case and are awaiting sentencing, Letten said.


It does not immediately known if Dorsey was a Prosecutor and a list of phone not found for him.


B.G. is probably best known for "Bling Bling of 1999," which was a success by the group, the Hot Boys, which he was a member with rappers Lil Wayne, juvenile, and Turk.
