Networks, Emmys, will reach 8 years 66 million deal

LOS ANGELES - the Emmy Awards and four major TV networks have agreed to an eight-year $ 66 million agreement, which allows changes in the ceremony to mark its 63rd year in September.

After long negotiations, Council of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Governors approved the agreement Wednesday night with ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

The cartel, reality Mark Burnett, whose credits are "Survivor", "Celebrity Apprentice" and the newcomer "the voice", will produce the ceremony aired on September 18, according to a statement of the network Academy.

"We are excited about the continuation of collaboration with our broadcast partners and look forward to working with Fox and, for the first time, with Mark Burnett on the dissemination of this year, said John Shaffner, Chairman of the Academy."

Major broadcasters will continue disseminating price in a "wheel rotation", with the launch of the new cycle of Fox.

The Academy received a small increase of its network licence costs, which agreed to pay at least 8.25 million for the ceremony each year for a guarantee of 66 million for the duration of the agreement.

The previous agreement, reached in 1992 and this year the expiry provided for fees of $ 7.5 million per year for the past four years.

In a move aimed at increasing the number of viewers, the agreement provides designated network each year and the Academy to consider the revision of the number of prices and how they are presented.

Previous efforts to trim the roster of the issuance of more than two dozen categories to create a show rider, more audience-friendly executed in the strength of the industry, writers, and others. The notes will agree that the interests of "various constituencies" taken into account.

This review don't kick in until after the departure of the first year of contact, which was concluded with too little time for Fox trying to change.

While the Grammys and some other show awards have managed to increase their ratings in recent years, the Emmy Awards have struggled for attention.

In 2008, the dissemination of the Emmy has hit a low number of record $ 12.3 million viewers. In 2009, the show rebounded when 1 million additional people tuned for a total audience of 13.3 million, but the ceremony last year rose only slightly, 13,47 million.

Shadowing the Emmys talks were a competitor based in New York who has been in the planning stages. Proposed Paley Center for media honors were aimed for a launch in 2012, probably in the spring when the networks present the following season programs Manhattan ad buyers.

An exploratory Committee with prestige studio, network and other industry leaders was weighed options for categories and selection process. A proposal has been to give the public a role of voting with an eye toward popularizing the winners.

Such an approach involves networks, which have seen their programs rated as CBS "ncis" and "The Mentalist" snobé night Emmy, then the lower-rated but acclaimed watch cable including CMA "mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" trophies collect and free promotion.
