Independence, Mo. -actor Gary Sinise said playing President Harry Truman in a film has changed his life.
Minimally, the star of the "NY SCS of: CSI," was in Kansas City Thursday to receive the Harry s. Truman good neighbor Award. He said playing in the 1995 HBO movie Truman induced him to start working on international relief programs, including from people to people in Kansas City.
People to People administers international operation of the children, an organization co-founded by Sinise. He received the prize for these efforts and work for veterans and active military members.
Sinise also announced a new program to send school supply kits to more than 2,500 children in Haiti in a larger effort coordinated by the US southern command after the earthquake of 2010.
